University profile:
Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University was changed from Sakon Nakhon Teacher Training School on July 17th, 1964, up graded to be Sakon Nakhon Teacher Training College as announced by the Ministry of Education on January 16th, 1970. Then Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat Institute was given the name by His Majesty the King on February 14th, 1992. Then up graded to be Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University as Rajabhat University Act on June 15th, 2004

Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University is located 6 kilometres away from Muang City on the highway leading to Udon Thani province. It was originally founded under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education as Sakon Nakhon Teachers’ Training School on July 17, 1964. The campus covers area of 16 rai (245 acres). In 1966 the school offered a program of higher education; students received a Certificate of Advanced Education which was equivalent to an Associate Degree. The school became Sakon Nakhon Teachers’ College in 1970. A Bachelor’s Degree of Education has been offered by the college since 1975. In 1995, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulayadej graciously conferred the name “Rajabhat Institute” to all Teachers’ Colleges. Consequently, Sakon Nakhon Teachers’ College was transformed into Rajabhat University on the day that His Majesty the King endorsed the bill of upgrading all Rajabhat Institutes to the state of Universities nationwide.

SNRU strives to provide the graduates with experienced lecturers in teaching. There are quality rooms for studying, library, computer center, processing room to support teaching and learning. The curriculum is as follows.

The university established Withitham School of SNRU. This school receives many nursery students (3 – 4 years old). The students learn naturally and are encouraged to behave the Dhamma way. The students are also encouraged to learn happily, so as to grow up to be good citizen of society.

Educational Management and academic service, the university has connections with primary and secondary schools in networking educational area services. In educational development, the university integrates balancing between modern technology and local knowledge. There are centers for experiment and research to develop teaching and learning to transfer knowledge to locals include the improved and Local Development Center, Suitable Technology Transfer Center, Vietnam Studies Center, Lao Studies Center, Sciences Center, Indigo Dying Clothes Center, Thai Studies Center of Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University in Quang Tri Teacher Training College, moreover the university holds many international cooperation projects with leading education institutes in many countries.

Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University had standardized quality from the Office of National Education Standard and Quality Assessment (ONESQA). In first round and pass assessment of all higher education in Thailand from Office of the Public Sector Development Commission SNRU ranked in top 5 in the years 2006 – 2009.
